Hazardous Tree Assessment

Precision Tree & Landscape Offers Licensed Tree Expert Services, Including Hazardous Tree Assessments

What is a Hazardous Tree?

Tree hazards include dead or dying trees, dead parts of live trees, or unstable live trees that are within striking distance of people or property. These trees, often referred to as “Hazard Trees” or “Danger Trees” have the potential to cause property damage, personal injury or fatality in the event of a failure. Defects that contribute to the instability of a tree may include breaks, storm damage, root damage, lighting strikes, insect infestations, or tree diseases.

What Can be Done With a Hazardous Tree?

Tree Removal is not the only remedy for a hazardous tree. Oftentimes, trees can be restored back to health and stability. Possible remedies include:

  • 1

    Bracing & Cabling a Tree

The installation of cables and bracing rods, along with pruning to reduce end-weight can reduce the likelihood of a structural failure. These rods and cables are used to redistribute structural stress, and support weak branch attachments. A combination of cabling and bracing can successfully address existing splitting limbs and trunks.

  • 2

    Fertilization & Routine Care

Trees that are suffering from a poor soil environment, sun scald, infestations, diseases or root damage may potentially be nursed back to health. Diseased or infested trees may require additional treatments.

  • 3

    Selective Pruning

Often used in combination with the other remedies mentioned above, the pruning of dead or dying branches, or the removal of excess weight near a weak branch attachment can improve the stability of a tree.

    Removal

Sometimes, a tree has to go. (Be sure to check your municipal reforestation requirements. Some tree species must be replaced if removed.)
